About EAQ Mid Somerset
EAQ Mid Somerset is based just outside Pawlett near Bridgwater and has been running since 2017. The centre has wonderful views over the Quantock Hills, the Pawlett Hams and the estuary of the River Parrett. Learners are able to take the horses for a walk along the fields and beside the river. Sessions are available for children and young people who are looked-after or who are finding school difficult as well as for those who simply want to learn more about themselves. The horses live together as a herd in a wonderful outdoor environment. There is no riding involved.
The centre is run by Hillside and Hams Ltd, a not for profit organisation led by Anne Warner, who was one of the first in the UK to complete the Level 4 Certificate in Facilitating Equine Assisted Learning and is now an EAQ Advanced Facilitator.
EAQ Mid Somerset offers equine assisted learning for children and young people with:
- social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
- low self-esteem and self-confidence
- attachment difficulties
- autism spectrum conditions
- learning difficulties
- and those who are excluded or close to exclusion from school.
Sessions are also available as part of a personal self-development programme for corporate clients and for adults with acquired brain injury or mental ill health.
Sessions are tailored to the needs of each individual and the staff use an experiential, person-centred approach which enables learners to develop their skills in their own way and at their own pace.
EAQ Mid Somerset is able to offer accredited OCNLR units and qualifications at Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2 including functional skills, employability and animal care through EAQ's accreditation with OCNLR. EAQ's last review of the centre was 28th July 2017.
